And Again....Another Apron

 Here's another one! I have so (sew) much fun picking out fabrics and trims and embellishments. I think that might be one of my favorite parts of the whole sewing process. Aprons are fun because you can get away with using a lot of fun/bright/funky stuff.

 Isn't this fabric the cutest? Snowmen, gingerbread and candy canes! It's so fun and cheerful.

 This one got a little wool felt gingerbread man on the pocket.

...And a little flair at the top! I have been using D-rings because they seem so much more manageable than tying and untying knots on wiggly kids.

Kids' Christmas Apron!

 I've had a spurt of random sewing projects lately, including Halloween costumes, birthday gifts and Etsy stuff. Perhaps one day I shall blog about it all, but no promises! :) I have about half a dozen kids aprons in progress right now. This one was my prototype and I love it! Basically, I want one for myself in grown-up size, but I have yet to find the justification to add yet another apron to my collection.

 I am working on a basic apron pattern with various 'customizations' so that each one can have its own personality. For this apron, I used this funky Christmas print as an accent with red bows and rick rack.

 I love that each apron can be unique and adapt to the style of the fabric, etc. Wait til you see the others I am working on! I have some fun ideas that will hopefully come to fruition. In the meantime, this cutie is up in the shop and ready to find itself a good home!

Going Away Apron

I have a friend who is moving away and to send her off, I made an apron. The ladies from our small group all came up with a word that we thought was descriptive of our friend, ant those words got sewn on the pockets.

A year or two ago, we did the same thing for another moving-away friend and she says she still loves using it. I am now offering free aprons to any friends who promise NOT to move away. Ha! 

This one is made from my own self-drafted pattern. That is about the extent of my pattern making skillz so far. I am in love with this fabric. It makes me wish I had a window over my sink because I would so make curtains of this!

Closet Flashback: Kitchen Attire

I admit it...I hoard aprons. I sew them up then forget about them in the back of my kitchen closet. It's sad because they are so fun to wear! I decided to dig one of my favorites out and put it to good use for Halloween cookie making. It's a pattern by Amy Butler from one of her books (I think it's in "In Stitches") and sews up beautifully every time.

I like how you can tie this half apron high on your waist or low on your hips depending on how you like to roll...(bad baking pun intended)

 



 

The waist is accented with little pleats.

 

I don't think the mini pocket really serves a purpose but it's cute anyway!

Chicken Apron!!

Rach made this apron for me for my birthday. I LOVE it!!! The fabric is fun (and sturdy) and the pattern is awesome. There are little tucks all along the front, and piping on the waistband and pockets. I pretty much want to wear it just because. She also made me a matching pot holder which I will show you soon. Thanks, Rach!!

Mom's Bday Apron

I made Mom a new apron for her birthday. If you noticed, we are apron crazy in our family. I used the Amy Butler Domestic Goddess pattern again (I made it for MawMaw here) and used fabric from Amy Butler's "Love" collection.

Another Apron!

Yes, my friends! It's another apron....what more can I say? I looked it up and we have posted at least 16 aprons between the two of us. And yet, I am sure before long we will be making more! One of my favorite ones is wearing out, so I just might have to replace it. :)

Mawmaw's Apron

 A little while ago, I was aimlessly trolling fabric.com for new yardage. I say aimlessly because if you're like me, you go to that site with one thing in mind then spend 45 minutes drooling over a million other prints that are totally unrelated to your original intentions. Happily though, this is how I came across this cow print. As soon as I saw it I knew that Mawmaw 'needed' an Amy Butler (Domestic Goddess 1/2 Apron Pattern) apron with white piping. It has pleats, a towel loop and of course piping was required!

PS - As usual, the Amy Butler pattern sewed up perfectly. I love her patterns because there isn't a raw edge left when the project is done.

Mom's Birthday Apron

I modified a pattern from Joel Dewberry's "Sewn Spaces" book for my wonderful MIL. I was so excited to finally sew something for her and I love how it turned out. I used a vintage looking Michael Miller print with contrasting red fabric. I couldn't resist and also added white piping....what doesn't look better with piping???

Pickle Apron!

First of all, I must apologize for the disgraceful picture! You'd think I would iron that bad boy first, right? Oh, well. A friend of mine makes the best pickles ever, and she has decided to go into business selling them. I made this apron for her because I thought it might come in handy when she is at a farmer's market selling her wares. The embroidery design was taken from her logo. To transfer it to the dark fabric, I used dressmakers transfer paper. I put it face down on the fabric, put my printed logo over it, and traced with a pencil. (You have to press firmly so it transfers nicely) It rubs off fast, so I ended up tracing over those lines with colored pencil. The pattern is the Granny's Clothespin Apron from One Yard Wonders.

Runs In The Family

Our Mom also shares our slight obsession with aprons. She made this apron for her friend. The fabric is from a store called Obie's in Lancaster. I hear this place is crammed with fabric, and I can't wait to check it out. Mom sewed the lamb buttons to represent her friendship with the recipient. The pattern is from One Yard Wonders.

Half Apron

Rachel made this awesome apron for me for Christmas! The pattern is Amy Butler, and the fabric is AWESOME!! The turquoise trim makes it even that much more fantastic. (Can you tell I really like it?) I have gotten to the point where I have relegated some of my 'old' aprons to the garage, because my apron collection is pretty, uh, robust.

Apron (Yes, Another One!)

Earlier this year, my friend Erin sent me an awesome apron she found on a trip to Seattle. I'd show you the link but I cannot for the life of me remember the store she got it at. Anyway, I decided to make a pattern from the apron and make one for her. Of course, I kept modifying it and decided that is simply must be reversible! Then I decided to add piping, and....surprise, surprise!...I even threw some rick rack in there. I changed the top section to add a little more coverage. I lined it with fabric from a plain white top sheet, and the waistband is interfaced so that the shape stays as it should. I must say that the construction on this baby is pretty sweet. It should hopefully last for a long time.

Bad Pictures of Aunt Marla's Awesome Apron

I once again brought out an Amy Butler pattern from her book "In Stitches" which I have used on several other occasions (here and here). It is a pleated half apron and this Robert Kaufman print is one of my favorites!

Apron

One can never have enough aprons, especially ones with red ruffles. There is also a ruffle around the sides/bottom of the apron. I love it!!

Birthday Apron

This is the apron of awesomeness that is complete with blue rick rack. Megan made this for me for my birthday and I just want to wear it constantly. The colors are so fun and happy and it looks almost like a little summer dress :) This is a testament that aprons DO NOT have to be boring and square!!!!!

Another Apron

As soon as I got back from Austin, I sewed this flashy little number. I had found the funky banana fabric in Fredricksburg, TX in an old school 5 & Dime store. As soon as I saw it I knew it needed to be made into this apron! It's an Amy Butler pattern from the book "In Stitches".

You guessed it...another apron!

This bottom of this apron was made using a pattern from Mary Engelbreight's new sewing book. I modified the waistband, making it wider and longer. The bib part was my addition. The fabric was left from a dress I made Katie, and I am pleased to say I worked a little rick rack onto this baby! Also, the whole apron is lined...with one of Jeff's old shirts. It was a nice yellow dress shirt that met its demise when a pen exploded in his pocket. There was enough fabric to line both sections, with still some leftover. Its amazing how much fabric you can get from one shirt!

Another Apron!

Here is another apron from the One Yard Wonders book. This one found a new home with Mom. The book calls for gathers along the waistband, but Rachel had done one with pleats and I loved that, so...I stole her idea!
