Closet Flashback: Another Cabo Halter

Here's another rendition of the Cabo Halter by Amy Butler (see a different one here) that I made a few years ago. It's a chocolate brown Michael Miller print and is a really nice quality cotton. 

Here's the top in action while I hung out with my perro. Side note: he was recently nicknamed gordo oso and I think it fits.

This particular pattern is great for ladies like myself that have freakishly long torsos. When I raise my arms you don't see my belly button. I consider that a victory! 

It's a delicate pattern without being too dainty if that makes sense.

I used all princess seams again and an invisible zipper. Since I made this originally I've gotten a serger and an invisible zipper foot. I bet I could crank one of these out in an hour or less now!

Closet Flashbacks: Cabo Halter

About 3 years ago I made 3 of these Amy Butler Cabo Halters in a row (one of the original posts here). They're quick, easy and don't require major yardage...yay!!! This one I made out of a curtain panel that I got from Target. It's a really light weight fabric and is fully lined with an invisible zipper. It's still in the 90s down here so it's perfect for the end of summer heat (which as I'm writing this I realize is ironic since I'm wearing jeans in these pictures).

 

I'd definitely make this pattern again but I'd stitch the front pieces together or tack them down from the inside to keep things from gaping.  It would also be easy to convert the halter into a tank by stitching the ties down on the back. Now I just need to dig out the other versions that I made and wear them too!  

Modified Cabo Halter

I got some ultra soft jersey fabric recently and wanted to make something easy for summer. I ended up modifying the Amy Butler Cabo Halter pattern. What I did was gather the bust instead of using darts and I sewed down the ties to make straps. I also skipped the zipper because the fabric had enough stretch to not need one. The final product is light and really comfortable and with a few more tweaks, it could become a warm weather staple.

I've now made 4 of these halter tops and I will probably make A LOT more during the winter to get ready for next year. I unfortunately do not have a serger :( so I decided to take an alternate route to finishing the seams. I used French seams to make the inside of the top nice and neat and I think I will pretty much be universally applying this technique for every garment I make until I procure an actual serger. It's time consuming but I like how the finished piece looks so much cleaner. I used a nice cotton print from Michael Miller's Honey Bee Honey Vine collection and I really like how it turned out. My only issue is that I ran out of thread half way through hemming the bottom! I wish I lived next to a fabric store....

Amy Butler - Cabo Halter

Yup....I made another Amy Butler pattern and once again I love it! This is a super easy halter top pattern with a lined bodice and invisible zipper. I really like how it fits long torso people like myself and that it could easily be converted into a tank top or sundress. I've made 3 already (one was a prototype) and I've had the pattern for less than a week. The materials for both halters cost me less than $10 too so that is an added bonus. It doesn't take a lot of fabric so it's a great way to use up small yardage long lost in the back of your stash. My only problem is that I ran out of zippers!
